The “Got it Done” List

By Scott Campsall

There is an extensive list of things I dread doing and it has come to my attention on more than one occasion that I tend to be a procrastinator at times.

I have some phrases that I use to make me feel better about it. Words like…

“I’m going to…”

“I need to…”

“It’s on my list…”

“Tomorrow I will…”

“Next week I will…”

When I use these phrases, it makes me feel like I’m busy, but I will get to whatever the thing is that I don’t really want to do. Things like organizing a closet or room, doing paperwork, or making that uncomfortable phone call. I’m making ‘to do’ lists that just aren’t getting done and this makes things worse because then things pile up and create stress.

My procrastination towards anything can be linked to either fear or laziness and for someone who preaches to people all the time to step out of their comfort zone to try martial arts or fitness classes, this has pushed me into deciding to make some personal changes.

I’m encouraging you to do the same thing. Make a ‘to do’ list and do the things that you are dreading the most. Make that doctor’s appointment, fix that squeaky door, get to that class you’ve been too nervous to try (maybe one of ours that you haven’t done yet).

Instead of making a ‘to do’ list, let’s make a ‘got it done’ list and replace our weaknesses with pride.
